Dreaming of a wet Christmas

Image
W hile Erin was away visiting her family and new niece I thought it would be nice to replace the wire mesh pantry shelves with sturdy wooden ones. Erin had been bugging me to do it since moving in and being alone for a few days just seemed like a good way to kill a day. Plus, last time I was alone over the holidays I tiled a tub surround…and smoked a whole turkey on the BBQ. http://the-after-path.blogspot.com/2008/01/merry-christmas.html  Living in a brand new place doesn’t give much opportunity to renovate. It is something I miss from living in a 60 year old house so I was excited to follow through on this little task. I took extra care removing the old shelves and patched, muded,  sanded, and painted the large holes left behind. I painted all the shelf ledges with love. All for none. When I drilled through the last ledge I was going to put up for the night (10:30) water started trickling out. At first it was an “oh that sucks” but I knew once the water was...

A Celebrity in my home town

Image
Our short visit in YK wasn’t all ptarmigans and roast beef. We headed out for an open mic night where I played a couple songs to the crowd of 4 people. Of course, the local rag was there to capture the excitement and ran the following article: “Famous Toronto celebrity, “Erin Pong” sneaks into Yellowknife for some R&R.Here she is seen entertaining herself at a popular Yellowknife night spot JAVAROMA with a new mystery “boytoy”. Sources indicate that she rented out this location in order to spend some private time with her new man-friend …as you can see the place isn’t exactly full!!!” OK, so that was made up by Al but believable none the less. I’m kind of a big deal no? …at least my mother thinks I am.

Mustard and Bologna

S cott had been craving a ceaser the entire time we were in New York. This craving carried over to Erin and I so on the way back to Toronto we hit the duty free shop. FYI, booze is cheap in the states. The next day I slept till noon and it was great. Erin had to work at 9:00…she is a trooper but if I had her job I would be up and excited to. She works in media and gets great perks. Her friends also work in media and one of them got us tickets to the Trailer Park Boys movie premier party. It was a blast, a mix of the Trailer Park Boys and Canadian musicians. There was performances by Thornly, Daniel Greaves (formally fronted the Watchmen) Helix, the drummers form the Tea Party and OLP, the guitarist from Rush, the singer from Junkhouse, Kim Mitchels band, and Bubbles himself who performed “Liquor and whores” with some of the previous mentioned musicians. It was a great time, so fun and so funny. I wish I followed the show as most of the characters were there including...

Surviving the Pink Palace

Image
Surviving the Pink Palace It was definitely an interesting week. Pink Ouzo to go with Pink Togas…a birthday I wont soon forget. Mountain top Quading followed by roll overs and broken bones (don’t worry mom, not mine or Jons). Late night improve jamming with the best Johny be Good I have ever heard…by a Brit, and strep throat and plenty on sun. This week had it all. Surviving the Pink Palace – Don’t Drive Your Quad off a Cliff. I will start with some pics taken on a quading trip we did. This was a lot of fun and very scenic as we drove up a few mountains on the island. It was also action packed as 2 of the girls almost killed each other…twice! I was lucky enough to be behind them when one of the girls slammed into the back of the other. This was followed by me spinning out and crashing into a wall to avoid them. Another girl almost drove of a cliff. You think that would scare somebody from quading. Not these girls. They rented them on there own th...
