African Neckwear Art Activity

Encourage children to explore African tribal art and patterns with this interesting travel art activity that will allow them to create fun, decorative necklaces using just black pens and paper plates!

Art ActivityThis travel art can be done in:

  • Cars
  • Planes
  • Trains
  • Hotel rooms

What you will need:

  • Paper plates
  • Black felt tip pens
  • Safety scissors

Directions:

  1. Cut the paper plates into a ‘C’ shape so they will sit around the neck.
  2. Put all drawing materials in a plastic lidded box ready for transporting. Give your children a tray to work on.
  3. Invite your child to design his or her own African-inspired neckwear by experimenting with geometric patterns. It’s really effective to work exclusively in black and white. (You can find some inspiration here.)
  4. Wear it like a necklace!
